Homework

Kindergarten Homework Policy

• Homework folders will go home every Friday.  Inside the folder you will find a parent letter and homework to be completed and turned in on the following Thursday.

• Please reinforce the idea that homework is the responsibility of the student, but that you are there to help.

• When help is needed, explain the directions and guide your child without doing the work for him/her.  If there are any problems, please let me know.

• There are occasions when homework cannot be completed on time.  The important thing is that your child learns that homework is a responsibility.

Kindergarten Homework #11
November 13, 2009

*This week’s homework activity is to create a “Thanksgiving Menu”.  This meal is to be designed by your child based on the things that they would like to see on the Thanksgiving table.  Be sure to point out the 4 Basic Food Groups chart on the back of the menu included in this packet, making sure that every group is represented in the meal.  If by chance you happen to be cooking a special dish for your real holiday meal, include your child in on the process.  Talk with them about the steps in which you take in order to prepare such a dish (buying the food, measuring the ingredients, etc.).  Inform your child that there is a lot more to a Thanksgiving meal than just eating the yummy food!

*Our next letter in lights will be the letter “H”.  In order to help connect real life objects to this letter, please send with your child on Monday one object that begins with this letter.  These objects will be displayed in our “Letter Museum”.  I have included a letter “N” review page in this week’s homework packet to help reinforce what I taught in my language arts group this week.

*Please make sure to read to your child every night for at least 20 min. This week have your child practice reading the small books titled I Like My to the members of your family. This book will help your child practice reading the high frequency words I, my and like.  This book is for you to keep at home.

*I have included two math dittos to help with numbers up to 10.  Please encourage your child to make these numbers like we do at school at home.
