Mrs. Donnell's Class

Homework

Kindergarten Homework Policy

• Homework folders will go home every Friday.  Inside the folder you will find a parent letter and homework to be completed and turned in on the following Thursday.

• Please reinforce the idea that homework is the responsibility of the student, but that you are there to help.

• When help is needed, explain the directions and guide your child without doing the work for him/her.  If there are any problems, please let me know.

• There are occasions when homework cannot be completed on time.  The important thing is that your child learns that homework is a responsibility.

Kindergarten Homework #24
March 5, 2010

v With St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaching us, one never knows if and when we will be getting a visit from some very mischievous leprechauns.  In order for us to be prepared for such a visit, I am asking all of you for homework this week to create some sort of leprechaun trap.  This trap will be placed somewhere in our room the night before St. Patrick’s Day in the hopes that it may help us catch one of these leprechauns.  Be creative and have fun with this project!

v Next week our featured letter will be the letter X.  In order to help connect real life objects to this letter, please send your child to school with one item that starts with this letter to be added to our “Letter Museum”. I have included a letter “U” review page in this week’s homework packet to help reinforce what I taught in my language arts group this week.

v Last week you were asked to pound out and read the words and sentences from Unit 2 in Project Read.  This week I would like you to use the same list of words to create new sentences of your own.  Encourage your child to create and write these sentences on their own.  The children in this class are very familiar with the writing process.  They know that a sentence begins with a capital letter, that there are spaces in between words, and that there is some sort of punctuation at the end of their sentence.  Encourage your child to spell the words in their sentences not found in Unit 2, the way they appear to sound.  Please include these sentences in the homework packet that you return to me next Thursday.
