Kindergarten activities foster exploration and discovery. The joy of learning evolves through making connections which will continue on in a child’s elementary experience. By offering a meaning based, integrated curriculum, I hope to create an environment conducive to joyful yet critical thinking. Planning interdisciplinary themes and units offers children the opportunity to learn information, understand it, apply it to new situations, analyze to understand relationships, create something new and reflect on what they have done. Learning therefore becomes a process rather than a product. I believe in a developmental approach in which a child learns at his/her own pace. The development of the whole child is my goal by combining academic, social, emotional, physical and artistic enrichment. Every child will be required to grow optimally as an individual and as a participating group member. It is my hope that as a class we will learn to gain a sense of respect for others as well as for ourselves. In order for all of this to take place, your child will be encouraged to observe, imitate, listen, pretend, dream, make choices, experiment, discuss, perform, interact with others and enjoy the learning process. |
