HNA Pets Website

The purpose of this website is to inform those in the Highland Neighborhood of options to consider when trying to locate/report a lost pet.

I've LOST my pet, what should I do?

  1. Before you lose your pet, it is recommended that you register some basic information about your animal with the HNA Pet Registry
    1. This will enable your fellow neighbors to quickly identify animals and make it easier for them to find you should your animal not cooperate.
  2. Send a message to the HNA ListServ describing the animal, where it was found, it's condition/temperment, and pictures if at all possible.  Most of the time, this method is fairly responsive.
  3. If no response, you can try posting to Austin Craiglist Pet Community to get the word out.  Both of these mechanisms are watched by your neighbors in general and will reach the most targeted eyes possible.
  4. Feel free to walk the neighborhood where you feel your animal was lost.  Talk to the neighbors, many of us are more than happy to help/share our information.

Disclaimer:  This information is provided as a guideline.  At no time, is the HNA suggesting that you jeopardize your personal safety for a strange animal.  If you are unsure, uncomfortable, and/or unfamiliar dealing with animals, it is highly recommended that you disregard any suggestions which result in direct contact of the animal

I've FOUND a pet, what should I do?

  1. If the animal appears friendly, check for tags on the collar.  If the animal doesn't appear to have a collar, then it is possibly a stray and/or a recent drop-off.  This is not uncommon in our neighborhood.
    1. If a phone number is found, please call the number on the tags and try to contact the owner.
    2. Most dogs, even if tags are missing, are embedded with a chip that holds all their owner information.  While not visible on the surface, the Austin SPCA on Georgian/Research willingly scans these animals to provide your the contact information.
  2. Check the HNA Pet Registry to see if the animal has been documented, if so contact information should be available.
  3. Send a message to the HNA ListServ describing the animal, where it was found, it's condition/temperment, and pictures if at all possible.  Most of the time, this method is fairly responsive.
  4. If no response, you can try checking Austin Craiglist Pet Community to see if the owner reported it missing.
  5. If there are no responses, and you need to have someone pick-up/drop-off the animal, you can call 411 and report the animal and get instructions on where to take it.

Any and all efforts to find the owner's of these lost animals is greatly appreciated by their owners and the animals as well!
