Welcome to the 7th grade! You're in for an exciting and challenging year as you enter the middle of your middle school career. As a member of Team 7A, you have an awesome group of teachers who will guide you through the ins and outs of the 7th grade while helping you to find the answers to some of the "big questions" in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. In Language Arts this year, you'll explore one of the oldest forms of communication, share the trials and triumphs of some young "heroes" in the novels we read, as well as improving your own reading and writing skills. If you want to know the types of skills we cover this year, look no further than our district's curriculum guide. The class is based on the LA standards as they are outlined in the guide. I emphasize critical thinking skills, vocabulary, and writing. We will use technology in a variety of ways, ranging from the use of Mac iLife applications (iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband, Comic Life) to writing wikis (web pages) and communicating through online discussion boards or blogs. We will also be using a Promethean Interactive Whiteboard in the class this year. (At the moment, though, it has yet to arrive... so stay tuned!) I'm looking forward to a great year and I hope you are as excited to get started as I am! On this site, you'll find online message boards, announcements for the latest homework assignments, links to handouts given in class, as well as a site dedicated to the Hawthorn Middle School North Tech Club.
