UPDATE: Our first batch of newspaper is now live and accessible at the Chronicling America website. “Newspapers are the most important printed record of the history of our country at the local, state and national level. Now in a single search, users can dive into a million pages on the Chronicling America webpage and surface at the pages that contain the history of our past in real time.” — Henry Snyder, Director of the Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research and Project Director for the California Digital Newspaper Project, University of California at Riverside The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded $200,000 to the University of Hawaii at Manoa Hamilton Library to begin digitization of Hawaii’s microfilmed newspapers. The Newspaper Digitization Project, a part of the National Digital Newspaper Program developed by NEH and the Library of Congress, will digitize approximately 100,000 English-language newspaper pages between the years of 1880 and 1922 during the two-year grant period. Newspapers digitized as part of the grant award will be included in the Library of Congress’ Chronicling America database.
