On Saturday, September 12, 2009, Dore Minatodani presented a brief introduction and demonstration of Chronicling America to 26 Hawaii State Dept. of Education teachers. The session was hosted by the DOE's "Teaching American History" project, and was co-sponsored by the Hawaii Council for the Humanities. It provided training and a continuing education opportunity for DOE teachers, in preparation for History Day 2010. In support of this year's History Day theme, "Innovation in History: Impact and Change," the sample topic, the undersea Pacific cable that brought telegraphic communication to Hawaii, retrieved newspaper articles from San Francisco, Sacramento, St. Paul, Omaha, New York, Houston, Salt Lake City, and of course Honolulu. |
