Cathryn
began harp lessons at the age of eight years old (fulfilling her
mother's life-long dream of playing the harp). Thankfully, Cathryn
learned to love the harp as well. Throughout her growing-up years she
traveled with her teacher and other students to perform for events in
Chicago, Seattle, Australia, Las Vegas, and Prague. She was awarded
third place in 1997 and first place in 1998 at the Utah State Fair
Competition in Salt Lake City. She performed with and later helped
direct the BYU Harp Ensemble for five years, and was the principal
harpist for BYU's premier orchestra for other two years. She was a
finalist in a national college harp competition (the Anne Adams) in
June 2004. Her teachers include ShruDeLi Ownbey, Konrad Nelson, and
Elzbieta Smzyt. She has over ten years of wedding and reception
experience. Education Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance from Brigham Young University, 2006 Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from Brigham Young University, 2006 Master of Arts in Comparative Literature from Indiana University, Bloomington, 2007 |
