The Phoenix and RebirtH

In ancient Egyptian mythology and in myths derived from it, the phoenix is a mythical sacred firebird.  It is said to have an extraordinarily long life span, as long as 12,594 years (depending on the source).  When the time comes for the Phoenix to die, it Retreats into the mountains settles into its nest.  After taking one last look at the world, it immolates itself, and rises from the ashes renewed and young. As such, the Phoenix symbolizes rebirth and is considered a noble creature.

The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible.

The Phoenix is universally considered a champion of good. The Phoenix abhors evil, and will not associate with anyone without honor and goodness. Also, no matter which story you read, the Phoenix is always the symbol for creation from destruction.

According to the Greeks the phoenix lived in Phoenicia next to a well. At dawn, it bathed in the water of the well, and the Greek sun-god Apollo stopped his chariot (the sun) in order to listen to its song.
