He is a licensed financial planner (as an authorised representative of Strategic Joint Partners Pty Ltd) and professional business planner and coach (garyweigh.com). He holds Bachelor of Commerce (UQ) and Master of Financial Planning (GU) degrees. For five years until mid-2006, Gary taught Financial Planning subjects at Griffith University as a sessional lecturer. His area of specialisation is superannuation, retirement and estate planning.

As director of Gary Weigh & Associates Pty Ltd, Gary offers strategy and financial advice to those either in retirement or contemplating their retirement options. He also provides business planning and consulting services to business clients.

Prior to commencing his own financial services business in 1998, Gary was the State Manager of Tyndall Australia, a provider of personal insurance, investment and superannuation products. Prior to that, he spent 10 years as a professional management consultant employed by leading consulting firms Taylor Byrne Tourism, Ernst & Young and Douglas Heck & Burrell (now incorporated into Pitcher Partners).

As well as tending to his own business he now applies his knowledge and experience for the benefit of Griffith Aikido Institute. Since joining us in mid 2005 Gary has facilitated two annual strategic retreats. The result has been a plan which has steered the course of a small university sporting club to a rapidly growing incorporated association with ever-increasing links into the local community. Since our incorporation in April 2007, Gary has introduced a comprehensive ‘financial management policy’ and overhauled the accounting system from cash to accrual.

On the mat, Gary is an enthusiastic ‘oldie’ whose mind is willing but whose body and crook knees need a rest between classes. He is keenly interested in developing the business of the club, particularly in the areas of aikido in schools and the applications of ‘aiki’ principles in the business environment.

Away from business and aikido, Gary reads and sleeps a lot in an effort to recover for the next opportunity to roll and fall about on the big blue mat. Ki-ai!!
