Other Training Programs

Besides GRID Alternatives, there are many other community and school-based solar installation training programs and centers throughout California and beyond.

Green Job Training and Educational Programs
In addition to vocational skills training, these programs may offer other services like GED/high school diploma preparation, soft skills and job readiness training, and job placement.
  • For a listing of California solar vocational programs, see the Green Jobs Guidebook (excerpt), pages 45-46 and 49.
  • GRID Alternatives partners with some of these pre-apprenticeship programs to integrate solar installation into the construction skills training. For a list of GRID Alternatives' job training partners, see our Partners page.
Apprenticeship Programs
An apprenticeship is an entry-level job that allows you to get paid while learning the trade. Most apprenticeships are run through a labor union, a large company like an electric utility, or a college.
  • A listing of California apprenticeship programs can be found in the Green Jobs Guidebook (excerpt), pages 47-48.
