Certification of Installers Since 2003, the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) has been awarding professional credentials to renewable energy installers. The NABCEP credentials are voluntary and are not licenses to practice electrical or any other form of construction in any state or jurisdiction. NABCEP has two certification programs for Solar Electric (PV) Installers: 1. PV Entry-Level Certificate of Knowledge If you want to get into the solar photovoltaic field, having the basic
Certificate of Knowledge may make you more competitive when applying
for a job. After taking a course from an approved provider and passing a national entry-level exam, this Certificate shows that the recipient understands the basic concepts of PV system operations. The Certificate by itself does not qualify an individual to install PV systems. Study: Learning Objectives 2. Professional PV Installer Certification The PV Installer Certification is a high-level credential based on proven installation experience (1-4 years depending on education/construction background), an extensive application process, and successfully passing a rigorous written exam. It is a mark of excellence for the PV Installer and it becomes a way for contractors to distinguish themselves from their competitors. Exams are scheduled twice a year.
