Welcome to the Grand County Middle School ART Page Please check back often to see new projects and artwork 2009-2010 Mid Term Art Show There was a lot of great art produced the first half of this trimester. Thanks to those students who were focused, worked hard, and put thought into what they were creating. 7th grade theme The theme for the 7th grade this year is, "Creativity Throughout Art History". Students will study artists and styles throughout history, starting with rock art and ending with abstract expressionism. Which is more creative, an elephant who can paint with it's trunk? or a person who paints on walls? *HINT: Creativity is making something new and original, not just copying. "Art is a Universal Language" will be the theme for the 8th grade. We will be learning about artists from around the world and creating projects inspired by them. "Playing for Change", travels around the world recording different artists playing the same song. They then combine the recordings into a final piece. The group believes that humanity can be united through music. The visual arts also unite humanity. All people everywhere can be inspired by works of art, regardless of nationality, economic status, language, race, gender, etc. 3rd Trimester artwork, 2009 Australian Aboriginal Dot Art Project In this unit students learned: 1) About the ancient ritual of Australian Aboriginal sand drawings. 2) How modern Dot Art was developed from sand drawings, in the 20th century, with new art materials (acrylic paints and canvas). 3) Ritual and symbols used in aboriginal artwork.
