Listening Perspectives in Relational Gestalt PracticeSally Brooks & Stuart StawmanA workshop grounded in the work of Lynne Jacobs, PhD and Gary Yontef, PhD Contemporary, relational Gestalt therapy reminds us of an inescapable truth; that the therapist and the client are always engaged in a complex, interweaving dance of mutual influence. Every client/therapist dyad is unique, not just because every client is unique but because both parties and the relationship they form are. Two-way relational dynamics between therapist and client are present from the outset of therapy and the way in which these intersubjective processes emerge and manifest themselves through our interaction is a key focus of the relational therapist. In addition to the more obvious qualities of the conversational exchange between client and therapist, there are those elements that are experienced at a sub-vocal and ‘felt-sense’ level, where bi-directional self and mutual regulatory influence is occurring all the time.
Learn to Identify and Work with Relational PhenomenaThe primary intention of this training workshop is to offer a relaxed atmosphere in which to develop and practise relational listening perspectives under the live supervision of Stuart and Sally. You will learn to:

Workshop: Choose Life at Whatever RiskA Personal Development Workshop led by Ari BadainesThe essence of this group centers on the idea that people get stuck in many aspects of their lives: relationships, work, and self esteem issues. There are many reasons for this, but the essential idea is that people will not take the necessary risks nor experience the ensuing anxiety long enough to maintain the growth, shift and enable movement in directions that will bring greater satisfaction to their life goals and dreams. Thus, avoidance of anxiety becomes primary, and the outcome is ‘stuckness’ in relatively unsatisfying relationships to others, themselves, and their lives. They do not go for, or sabotage the very things that would make positive changes in their lives. They may be spiritually depleted, and have lost connection to their own humanity Through the issues that come up in the group, ‘stuff’ people bring to the group, and from what emerges in the group, participants may become more aware of how they hold themselves back, and some of the sources of their concerns and fears. Participants will have an opportunity in the group setting to experiment with taking the risks and challenging the fears that hold them back. Sometimes this leads to one more step in the direction of growth, and sometimes it is a giant leap that has life-changing positive changes. Individuals who attend have final responsibility for their level of participation in the group. Individuals soon begin to share at a more personal and deeper level about the issues that concern them. I will facilitate the person in their ‘work’ about these issues, using a variety of approaches from gestalt therapy, psychodrama, and other methods that will responsibly enhance their discovering new possibilities. This may help them to experience blocked emotions, gain new awareness, and try out new approaches to old problem situations. Besides powerful emotional release, other potential outcomes are greater self-awareness and insights, a change in connection and perception of self and others, a richer connection to both others and oneself, and a deepening sense of your own humanity. Ari Badaines is a clinical psychologist who trained in the USA and resides in Sydney. For 12 yrs he lived in England where he had a private practice and led numerous training groups and experiential groups in the UK, Europe and Scandinavia. In Sydney he has a clinical and consulting practise and provides supervision for other therapists and trainees. He is Director of the Melbourne Centre for Psychodrama, and is involved in training and leading experiential workshops for the Sydney Gestalt Institute. He travels each year to run workshops in the USA, UK, Europe, and Thailand including workshops at Findhorn in Scotland, Skyros Centre in Greece (for 25 continuous years), and Cortijo Romero in Spain.
