Authenticating your account
When you sign into Google Apps for the first time you will need to "authenticate" your account by the following steps:
Step 1 - go to the Start page
- Click on the g@sms start page link either in you invitation email or directly here: http://sites.globalalliancesms.org/
- you will be taken to the public view of the g@sms start page (see image below)
- click on the image to enlarge it, then use your Web browser's back-arrow to return to this page
Step 2 - enter username and temporary password
- Click the "Sign in" link in the top-right corner of the page
- you will be taken to the sign-in page for the g@sms start page
- enter your username (firstname.lastname)
- enter your temporary password
- click on the "Sign in" button
- click on the image to enlarge it, then use your Web browser's back-arrow to return to this page
Step 3 - change password and authenticate your account
- After completing Step 2 above you will be taken to the account authentication page
- this Step 3 only happens the first time you sign into Google Apps

- Step 3 continued:
- Enter a new password in the "Choose a Password" text box, and then enter it again in the "Re-enter Password" text box
- Select your language from the language drop-down list
- Click in the text box below the image of distorted letters, and enter the letters you see in the image above
- you may have difficulty interpreting the letters, don't worry, if you get it wrong you get other goes until you get it right
- this is to stop Internet "robots" signing into accounts
- if you have visual impairment, you can click on the wheelchair icon to hear an audio version of the distorted letters
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, read the Terms of Use policy (it's the fine print inside the scrollable box), then click the "I accept. Create my account" button.
Step 4 - personalise your g@sms Start page
- After completing Step 3 above, you will be taken back to your g@sms Start page, where you will be signed in
- you will see your g@sms email address along the top right of the screen (beside the "Sign out" link)
