Saint Ann's Church and Shrine

Saint Ann's Church and Shrine was founded by German immigrants in 1858 on the corner of Broadway and Emslie Sts. in Buffalo, NY.

The present church was finished and dedicated in 1886, and is one of the finest gothic masterpieces in the country. Uniquely located between Downtown Buffalo and the city's East Side, the church's present congregation is made up of European backgrounds, recent African immigrants and refugees, and African Americans.

The Jesuit Fathers staffed the parish from 1858 - 2007 and the Stella Niagara Franciscan Sisters taught and lived there from 1874 - 2007. Hundreds of priestly and religious vocations came from the parish. The school, now closed, had in the early 20th century the largest enrollment in the whole country and saw tens of thousands of students pass through its doors.

St. Ann's welcomes thousands of visitors each year for Sunday Mass, special events and tours.

Now pastored by diocesan priest Fr. Roy Herberger, St. Ann's is now in its 152nd year thanks to the help of local priests' sacramental ministry, parishioner involvement, and the support of people like you.

The Friends of Saint Ann's is a group of parishioners and friends, community leaders and ordinary citizens alike, dedicated to preserving this extraordinary spiritual and cultural landmark for years to come.
