| The Eyler's Valley Chapel could also be considered to be in Emmitsburg. Eyler’s Valley Chapel, 1857, This candle lit one-room meeting house stands very much like it did in 1857 when it was built. The remote location adds to the historic setting. In the late 1700’s Frederick Eyler, a Swiss immigrant, along with his brother purchased a large tract of farm and timberland in northern Frederick County. They named the settlement Eyler’s Valley. For many years those living in the valley worshiped in several of the homes as well as the Hampton Valley Schoolhouse that was located in what is now the parking lot for the Chapel. In the summer of 1857 Eyler’s Valley Chapel was built. |
