Help is Needed for the NH Championship Regatta

posted ‎‎Oct 3, 2009 12:02 PM‎‎ by Bob Herdlein   [ updated ‎‎Oct 3, 2009 12:44 PM‎‎ ]

Hello all Crew Parents,

As we mentioned at the Parent meeting, Central Crew Club will be needing parent volunteers for the upcoming NH Champiionship Regatta, October 10, in Pembroke to help with the parking lot.

Central Crew is being asked to try to provide 4 workers from 6:00am to 2:00pm and 3 thereafter until 6:00pm.  We have typically organized this in 2 hour shifts. In the past we have asked that parents to sign up for a time slot knowing that they may need to be covered if their child is rowing during that time. We understand that parents will want to see their children row and we expect that they will cover each other as all will not be racing simultaneously.  The coaches don’t make up their minds as to who is going to be rowing in which events until too close to race day for us to wait until they know the full schedule.

Last year I worked with the coaches at the last minute to make sure volunteers were not working at the same time their athlete was rowing.

As a sign of ARC's gratitude to our volunteers, we will be allowed to park in our Premium Parking area on the soccer field which is the closest parking available to the venue.  ARC will be charging the public $20 per car to park in this area this year.  Central parent volunteers will be able to park in this area for free for the entire day.

Thank you to the families that have already volunteered!

1. I will need 3-4 people per 2 hour shift from 6am to 2pm. Prefer 4 people for earlier shifts if possible.

    6-8 am

    8-10 am

    10am - 12noon

    12-2 pm

    Total 12-16 people.

2. I will need 3 people for one shift from 4-6 pm.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION: Assisting traffic flow. 4-6 pm will assist in taking up tape and stakes used to mark no-parking areas to pre-    regatta status.

4. You will not be charged for parking and will have access to PREFERRENTIAL PARKING.

5. Please CALL or E-Mail me with your name and cell phone # (and a time that works for you) so that I can coordinate. Remember, last year I  worked with the coaches at the last minute to make sure you were not working at the same time your athlete was rowing.

Your time and consideration IS greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Linda Aubin

2009 New Hampshire Championships Regatta

posted ‎‎Oct 3, 2009 11:59 AM‎‎ by Bob Herdlein   [ updated ‎‎Oct 8, 2009 5:11 AM‎‎ ]

This year on October 10th, Amoskeag Rowing Club (ARC) hosts the New Hampshire Championships Regatta at Memorial Park in Pembroke NH. The regatta is a 3 mile head race that starts upriver and finishes at the park. ARC is dedicated to making sure that NHCR is a superb regatta. The beautiful river, ample parking, smooth efficient operation and friendly staff are just some of the reasons why this regatta really stands out. Each year, the club receives many thank-you notes from participants who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Many of those who sign up consider NHCR to be the highlight of the regatta season.

2009 Fall Schedule

posted ‎‎Sep 23, 2009 7:40 PM‎‎ by Bob Herdlein

Hello Athletes,

I have attached the schedule for the fall season as well as the new excuse absence note when you are absent from practice.

First, the schedule is a lighter load than previous years. Our focus is the Head of the Fish and we want to be strong when we get there. We have scheduled two scrimmages to help us prepare. These are mandatory and we need all the rowers there for these to count. They are treated like regattas by the coaches, so please treat them like regattas as well. The details are still being worked out but as soon as we know more we will pass the information along to you. This schedule will also be passes along by Michele Fontaine, so if you get it twice, nothing has changed!

Secondly, the attendance policy for this season is similar to past seasons with one exception. You have always been required to inform me when you have to miss a practice, now you need to bring in a note with a parent/guardian signature as well. I have attached a copy of the form that I would like you to use. If you are in a rush, just hand write it and then have your parents sign it. It is not your parents job to write the note - it is the athletes responsibility.

Same as always if you know you are going to be absent beforehand, bring the note before. If you stay home sick from school, send me a text/e-mail to let me know and then bring in the note the next day. Ideally I would love everyone to be at every practice!

This policy starts on Tuesday so if you miss Tuesday's practice for some reason, please bring in your excused absence note on Wednesday!

I hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day weekend!

Mandatory parent meeting/last registration night

posted ‎‎Sep 23, 2009 7:33 PM‎‎ by Bob Herdlein

WHERE: Library at Central High School
WHEN: Thursday 9/10
TIME: 6:30 pm

Hello Crew Families,

This is a reminder that, Thursday 9/10, is our Mandatory parent meeting/last registration night, which is to be held in the Library at Central High School @ 6:30 PM.

This meeting is for athletes and parents alike, it is a chance for us to meet together as a Club, welcome all new/returning athletes and families, and discuss the details of our upcoming rowing season. Parents will have a chance to meet our Coaches and our Club Board Members. This is great opportunity for parents to get involved and have a better understanding of how the Crew Club operates.

We are actively looking for volunteer parents to help with the coordinating our food tent this season. Also any parent(s)looking for carpooling to and from practice, this is the time to speak up.

Please make sure your uniform is ordered if you expect to have it by the first regatta. Please see Mrs. Larkin if you have any questions.

The mandatory fundraiser this season is cash calendars. We are expecting each athlete to sell a minimum of 13 calendars @ $10.00 each. If you have not picked up your fundraising packet yet, or need more tickets, please see our parent volunteer Heidi Goudas. It is important for all of us to support this fundraiser as the registration fee of $375.00 per athlete is only a portion of the total cost to put one rower on the water when you average in regatta fees, insurance, gas, Coaches salaries, etc. This does not include new boats, equipment, repairs, etc.

All New Rowers! Registration forms can be downloaded from our website www.centralcrew.org, these forms need to filled out COMPLETELY, including a PHYSICAL, which will need to be valid through November 8th 2009. If the physical expires prior November 8th 2009 you MUST provide a DR'S NOTE stating that your child is CLEARED FOR SPORTS PARTICIPATION through November 8th 2009. All these necessary forms along with the seasonal fee of $375.00 per athlete/per season constitute a complete registration packet. If the packet is not 100% COMPLETE they can not be accepted. These are the Club rules for the safety and protection of all of your children. Without a complete registration packet no athlete WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with our registration process.

Once again we are all looking forward to another exciting season of Rowing!

Sincerely,
Jody Gardner
