Aileen's StoryNo. This ain't going to be a sob story. I've been thinking of doing this program for the past few months, it just took awhile to figure out how to go about it. The design of the program is actually a first-hand experience that I hope could be replicated. I've been working with a number of schools and I found out that despite classroom teaching about how to utilize web tools it just doesn't stick. I've stayed in touch with a number of educators who have attended some of my trainings and we usually just chat and exchange links. Later on I found out through them that they've eventually shared these links to their peers. I thought then that it's key to have a "practicum" after learning from the classroom. Those who went through it with me have since gone off and become internet evangelists on their own, in their own sphere of influence. I never imagined that exchanging a few hi and hellos and links would eventually influence others to appreciate the internet better. So this program is an experiment of sorts with no expense in mind. All we need is internet connection and a few minutes of one's time to see how things go. Who knows, you might help shape the next internet rockstar! | Maui's StoryHi! I am Maui, and I am currently involved in the eSkwela Project. eSkwela is a flagship project of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), through its Human Capital Development Group (HCDG) that provides ICT-enhanced educational opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults (OSYA). The project recently received a Certificate of Commendation for the Non-Formal Educator Category of the 2007-2008 UNESCO Innovative ICT Awards. At eSkwela, we see the need to train instructional managers (IMs) on the use of information and communications technology (ICT) for teaching. Many IMs do not have adequate training and exposure on ICT, thus they lack appreciation for its use in the education setting. At eSkwela, we see that ICTs bring a lot of potential in transforming education, and we see the need for IMs to engage in more training, guidance, modeling and handholding in the use of ICT tools and resources. We are hoping that through the help of online mentors, more and more IMs will appreciate and make use of ICT in their teaching. |
