What is the Online Volunteer Mentoring Program?

The online mentoring program is a volunteer program open to knowledgeable IT users who would want to reach out and share their knowledge to newbies and non-techies.

Who is it For?

The idea came after experiencing and seeing the lack of appreciation on the use (and enjoyment) of IT tools among teachers even if they have been trained to do so.

We would like to increase the appreciation of using IT tools and with appreciation comes usage and further education. The program wants to encourage active IT user base to volunteer to teach the ropes to the newbies through a fun way.

Program Goals

1. Be able to communicate to newbies in IT usage that using IT tools is easy and fun.
2. Be able to introduce and initiate more activity for key usage points of IT services like mail, instant messaging, videos, web photo albums, blogging and collaborative tools such as making online documents and sites.
3. To "teach" in the most casual and unobtrusive way.

How Does This Program Work?

Educators who wish to learn more about how to use the internet through this experimental and fun way may sign up for this program. Sign-up here.

Volunteers can easily sign-up and join the program by registering here. A volunteer will be paired with an educator and then it all starts with hello. Sign-up here.

What do Volunteers Do?

Have no fear! We did not design this program to take a lot of your time. All we ask is just a few minutes every week to chat with your "student". What we want you to do is relate to your student how you enjoy using the internet (the fun side!) so we want you to make them appreciate the following:

1. Search
2. Mail
3. Instant messaging
4. Video
5. Web albums
6. Making online documents
7. Blogging

The idea is to spend a few minutes a day chatting with your student and "feeding" them with information through links (i.e. favorite Youtube videos) and generally showing them the ropes by showing them how you use the internet for fun.

Each "student" will be given a Google Account using the @eskwelatraining.info domain and you can easily chat with each other through your Gmail account.
