Redeem the Dead Chair - Responsibilities

The following is from an email I sent to our Redeeming the Dead Chair shortly after he was called:
  • Temple Babysitting - Historically, this program was administered through the relief society (up until Dec).  However, now it will fall under your calling.  The idea is that 1x/month we have babysitting available on a Saturday morning at the Stake Center adjacent to the temple so that couples can drop their kids off and attend an endowment session.  Usually, the couples that use this program also serve as the volunteers for the babysitting (on a rotational basis). The temple will be closed during the latter half of January for cleaning, so perhaps you can get this up and running sometime in late February.  I think it's usually done on the 3rd Saturday.
  • Temple Bus - One Friday evening each month, we have a bus that leaves from the church and goes to the temple for an 8pm session.  You don't have to organize any of this.  Simply make sure it gets announced in the 3rd-hour quorum meeting and try to encourage Elders to participate.
  • Temple Recommends - You should periodically print off a list of temple-recommend holders in the quorum from MLS and report any findings to the EQ presidency (e.g. endowed members without recommends, or whose recommends have expired).
  • Teach Lessons - We will probably have you teach 1-2 lessons/year in the 3rd-hour quorum meeting dealing with temple attendance.
  • Promote Temple Attendance - This is kind of ambiguous, but includes knowing about all the different resources available in the ward ( e.g. family history specialists, temple activities, etc), making announcements in the quorum, encouraging members to attend the temple, setting an example in the quorum.
  • Resource - This is also kind of ambiguous, but we want you to serve as a resource in the quorum for all things temple related.  For example, you should familiarize yourself with the new FamilySearch.org site and be able to show people how to use it.  You should also know who our family history consultants are in the ward.
