2009 EBHS Jazz I E.B.H.S. JAZZ BAND WINS DISTRICTS On Saturday, March 7th, the Eddyville / Blakesburg High School Jazz Band placed 1st in class 2A at the South East Iowa Bandmasters Association District Jazz Contest in Iowa City. The 1st and 2nd place bands from each class qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships, which will be held in Des Moines on April 14th. This is the 23rd year in a row that the E.B.H.S. Jazz Band has qualified for the Jazz Championships. Eddyville / Blakesburg placed 1st ahead of West Branch, West Liberty, Iowa Valley, West Burlington, and North Cedar in class 2A competition. Every one of the band’s soloists received an Outstanding Soloist Awards for their solo performances. Outstanding Soloist Awards went to: Roger Tangen; Bass, Nathan Chamberlain; Vibes & Piano, Joey Lane; Trombone, Arielle Brown; Trumpet, Jacob Lane; Tenor Sax, Brooke Lunsford; Alto Sax and Katrina Van Ringelestein; Vibes. Brooke Lunsford was honored by being selected as the Outstanding Soloist of the Day in Class 2A competition. The EB Trombone section received the Outstanding Trombone Section Award. The band is directed by Joe Overton. The EBHS Jazz Band will perform on March 19th with the middle school jazz band at the annual Jazz Band Concert at 7:00. The band will also perform at the Night of Jazz at the Daily Auditorium in Oskaloosa on April 3rd with many of the area jazz bands.  E.B.H.S. Jazz Band Wins at Indian Hills On
Saturday, February 28th, the Eddyville / Blakesburg Jazz Band placed
1st in class 2A at the Indian Hills Jazz Festival in Ottumwa. Several
members of the band earned Outstanding Soloist Awards for their solo
performances: Nathan Chamberlain; piano, Brooke Lunsford; alto sax,
Arielle Brown; trumpet, Roger Tangen; bass, Joey Lane; trombone, and
Jacob Lane; tenor sax. Brooke Lunsford was chosen as the Outstanding
Soloist of the Day.  Eddyville / Blakesburg Jazz Band Earns Division I On Saturday, January 31st, the Eddyville / Blakesburg High School Jazz Band earned a division I rating at the State Jazz Band Contest in Muscatine. EBHS Jazz I received a division I rating from all three judges in the performance center and also earned a division I rating in the sight reading portion of the contest. The band has earned a division I rating seven of the last nine years. E.B.H.S. Jazz I is directed by Joe Overton. The band has 23 members this year.   |
