Welcome to the Friends of Alexandra Park

promoting and protecting Alexandra Park in North London

Alexandra Park comprises the grounds around Alexandra Palace.

Originally designed by Alexander McKenzie in 1863 as a park and pleasure ground, the 196 acres of park now consists of a delightful mixture of informal woodland, open grassland, formal gardens and attractions such as the boating lake, cafes and the pitch-and-putt course.

Please ensure that you wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions. Note that if it is rainy,  the walk will be cancelled.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

If you need more information about the walk, please email as above.

Please be patient if you do not receive an immediate reply to your email.

  • New fawns!
Several new fawns can now be seen in the Deer Enclosure.  See our link Deer for more information about the deer in Alexandra Park.
  • Tree work in Alexandra Park
The Park Manager has let us know that he has had investigations carried out on two mature oak trees in the park (one in the playground, and one in The Grove).  These have revealed massive amounts of decay in the trunks of both trees.  His plan is, therefore, to drastically reduce the trunks of these trees, to make them safe, leaving stumps of 2 metres and 9 metres respectively.
  • You can see for miles…..or perhaps not.

The distant view of some of London landmarks from the South Terrace of Alexandra Palace is one of the highlights of a visit to Alexandra Park and Palace.  In fact the view of St Pauls is a “Protected Vista” under the Mayor’s  London View Management Framework http://www.london.gov.uk/priorities/planning/vision/supplementary-planning-guidance/view-management

However tree growth on the south slope of the Park is increasingly obscuring parts of the panorama.  We are interested in Park users’ views on whether or not there should be some judicious tree trimming to preserve some particular views or sight lines.  There are no plans or proposals for any action at present, but periodically people do raise this issue.
