January, 2009 Dear Parents & Students, During the second semester (starting January 26th) all Middle Level students will begin Health Education class. The format for this course will be an innovative teaching and learning experience for students, parents and our school community. It will place an emphasis on student initiative, parental partnerships and community involvement. Health Education is a unique school offering. As an educational institution, we feel that it is a vital component of our curriculum. Health is also a family and community matter. To a greater extent than most school subjects, health education extends through all aspects of our school community. Parents, schools, community members and health organizations collectively play important roles - helping children to explore, examine, and develop healthy habits and life-styles. As we begin, we are inviting parents to attend a meeting where we will go over the structure of this course and explain the learning environment we are shaping for students, families, and our school community. Student success will require personal initiative and parental support/participation. We hope that you will attend this meeting so that we can build the foundations for your child’s success. The meeting will be held in the REACH auditorium on Wednesday, January 28th. The meeting will start at 5:30 PM, following the Middle Level basketball game. We hope to see all Middle Level parents and students at this meeting. For more information, click on the link below to download the course guide.
