The Dignity Project helps restore dignity, self-sufficiency and pride in the lives of individuals and families through a variety of services for the economically disadvantaged. Your donations of unwanted autos or computer equipment makes this possible, while ensuring that these items are recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. Automotive
A working or non-functioning vehicle will help our Auto Giveaway Program serve those in need.  By donating your unused vehicle, you can help us provide eligible families with reliable transportation for work, while also giving at-risk high school students valuable training opportunities. You may also be eligible to receive a tax break for your donation. Car donors must have legal title to the car and be able to transfer ownership to The Dignity Project.

Computers
A working or non-functioning computer will help our Computer Giveaway Program assist more families attain their employment, education, training and/or career goals.

While we appreciate your generosity, we are only able to accept certain pieces of equipment due to space limitations and current equipment needs.

In particular, we are currently able to accept the following types of equipment:

  • desktop/mini-tower computers with Pentium III (600MHz or greater processor speed-
    usually 7-years old or newer)
  • notebook computers (functional or not) with a Pentium 200MHz or greater
    functional 15" and 17" LCD VGA monitors (We can no longer accept CRT monitors due to disposal fees.)
  • functional inkjet and small laser printers
  • computer parts (especially DDR RAM memory) and ethernet network components
  • we are always in need of functional Hard Drives, so if you have any , they would be much appreciated. We wipe and reformat all drives and also recommend donors run a utility such as *Wipedisk* or *WDClear* ( free programs down-loadable from internet) before disposing of hard drives in any manner.

**Electronic equipment that doesn't meet the above criteria should be dropped off at the Alachua County Household Hazardous Waste Facility (HWCC): (http://www.co.alachua.fl.us/government/depts/epd/pollution/householdwaste.aspx )

Driving Directions to HWCC:
The HHWCC is Located at 5125 NE 63rd Ave. next to the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station (2 Miles North of the Gainesville Airport off Waldo Rd North of the Airport -- follow the signs)

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers who want to be involved and help make a difference in the lives of those in our community in need.Volunteer opportunities vary, based on the individual’s interest, expertise, amount of experience or training, and time commitment and the agency’s needs at any given time.Opportunities are possible in direct service or program support roles in one of our agency’s program areas (ie., automotive or computer), as well as working on behalf of the agency, in general.Assignments can include clerical as well as more physically demanding tasks.

Applicants must complete an agency application and participate in an interview.Applications are accepted based on agency identified needs.

Other

As a non-profit organization, we rely largely on funding from grants, as well as financial contributions from area organizations and individual donors.However, even with the agency’s heightened cost consciousness and tight cost controls, grant funds typically fail to cover the entire cost of providing program services.Consequently, monetary donations are always gratefully accepted and put to good use to benefit those in need.
