DeepChangeGathering

Design

Core Questions:
•    What is the connection between individual and organizational transformation? How do we make the jump from one level to the other in our work and practice?
•    What does the emerging social justice movement that we are tying to embody look and feel like?  What new capacities and practices will we need to get there?

Assumptions:
•    Practice and action are important. We want to balance our thinking capacity with our capacity to act; we will use a range of practices throughout the gathering to ground our dialogue
•    The gathering will be guided by core questions that the group works to answer over the course of our time together
•    We are creating a space that is energizing, inspiring and celebratory
•    We are not necessarily striving for a joint pedagogy but we are interested in where our theories of change overlap.

2:30    Individual Transformation to Movement Leadership
This session will focus on individual transformation and how it impacts movement leadership. The goal is to help the group mine our collective experience, practices, questions and learning edges. After beginning with practice, we will have a “story panel” with leaders who can talk about how their individual practice is impacting their work as leaders in the social justice movement, the lessons and challenges they’ve faced on the journey; where they got support; and their learning edges. Participants will then have space to share their own stories (in relationship to the guiding questions) and pull out key themes, practices and principles.

2:30     Ideology, Strategy and Transformation
Ideology is a core strength and stumbling block for left movements. This session will use practices to help participants explore our relationship to ideology (and strategy) and how to be in right relationship with it.
4:00    Next Steps & Affinity Groups
In this session, participants begin to reflect on what they want to take away from the gathering. After individual reflection, participants will move into affinity groups (e.g. frontline groups around a common interest, funders, trainers, etc) to discuss next steps needed to build momentum and critical mass among these groups.
