What is Miss Deaf Oregon Pageant?

Miss Deaf Oregon Pageant (MDOP), affiliated with Oregon Association of the Deaf, started in 1973 and is held biennially during off years. The purpose of the pageant is to encourage young ladies ages 17 to 27 to have an opportunity to represent Oregon in the Miss Deaf America Pageant held biennially at the National Association of the Deaf conference in event years.

This Miss Deaf Oregon Pageant is open to young Deaf women from all over the state of Oregon representing their hometowns. The pageant offers these women the opportunity to develop their personalities, self-confidence and poise as well as to display their talents, voice their opinions and tell of their ambitions. It presents these women with the opportunity to win educational rewards in the form of scholarships and a chance to enter the Miss Deaf America Pageant.

To be eligible, a young lady must be single, never have been married and never have born a child bearing. She must be a high school graduate by the first official day of the national finals. Hearing loss is a factor and must meet the requirements of a 65-decibel or more hearing loss in both ears.

The Miss Deaf Oregon Pageant as well as Miss Deaf America Pageant is judged on Private interviews, presentations, talents, evening gowns and stage interviews.

Chaperones help the ladies by being responsible for their scheduled agendas and seeing that they are given support during the pageants.
