  • CS186 Midterm: odd SSNs go to 306 Soda, Even SSNs go to 277 Cory We have two rooms for tonight's midterm. If you have an odd social security number, go to 306 Soda.  If you have an even social security number, go to 277 Cory.If you don't have a social security number, use your student id number.If you don't have a student id number, use your telephone number.If you don't have any of those, come see us and we'll roll a die or something.

  • New Room for Professor's office hours My office hours will now be held in 449 Soda.   The times are the same as before (Monday 1-2 and Friday 11-12).   Please note that this Monday the TAs will be standing in for me due to travel.

  • Additional study aids for Midterm 2 Attached are solutions for the practice exam posted earlier.  Caveat Emptor:  I didn't have solutions from before so I created these - I'm pretty sure they're right but haven't had anyone else look over them yet.Also, note that Jesse posted a homework assignment where you get to run SQL queries through the PostgreSQL optimizer.   This assignment isn't due until the week after the midterm, but you may find it helpful to try at least part of the assignment as part of your studying.   It should help with understanding how the optimizer cost estimation works as well as allow you to brush up on some SQL.

  • Midterm 2 - Practice Exam and Logistics Midterm 2 will be held this Wednesday (Nov 4) during class.    The topics will be all of the material covered in class since the material on midterm 1.   As before, this includes lectures, material from sections, relevant chapters of the book, and the project (proj 2 in this case).   Of course you are expected to know the material from earlier where it is relevant to these topics.   The exam is closed book, but you can bring an 8.5" x 11" (double-sided) cheat sheet as before.From the book the relevant parts are:   Ch 5 (sections 5.1-5.7 only), and Chapters 12-15 (all)We were able to get a larger overflow room this time, so the ...
