We have one for Kampala 2227
We need someone to volunteer to be Acting Correspondent for Houston 8192
(if you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please contact David Bale) KAMPALA 2227 (Central division: southern parishes & Makindye division)
The contact person for Kampala Area 2227 is Kayiwa Fred. Contact him at kayiwafred@gmail.com
These are some of the 350 street kids and orphans that make up the soccer teams that Kayiwa Fred co-manages in the Mengo-Kisenyi slums of Kampala. Kayiwa is studying accountancy at university but as he can attend only when afford the fees, it is taking him some time to complete his degree. Meanwhile he is teaching computer skills to the boys and girls who play for Kampala Junior Team and fundraising to get more of them into school. The Team is very good indeed. They won all these trophies at an international tournament in Kenya during the summer. They have been invited to take part in a major youth tournament in Norway in July 2009, but as they lack sponsors to fund them, they are unlikely to be able to take part. Kayiwa has been talking to people and organisations in the communities that make up Area 2227 - the southern part of Kampala city centre, Mengo, Kisenyi and all the neighbourhoods of Makindye district, such as Kibuye, Nysambya, Kibuli and Wabigali. We will be putting together some of their stories so that people in council districts B & H in Houston can get to know more about the partners that have been allocated to them, who are to be their virtual neighbours until 2015. Then, every 5 years - in 4,800 areas drawn from almost 80% of all the world's countries - there will be random re-allocations and people across the world will be given new partners with whom to begin another Five Years of Friendship.
A contact person for Houston Area 8192 is still required, please contact David Bale at david@connectory.org if you can assist in filling this vacancy. Or email David at the same address, if you would like to be put on a mailing list to keep you in touch with developments. |
