Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Awards (URCAA)
The Office of National fellowships offers the opportunity to apply for one of the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Awards. The applications for the 2009 awards are due on February 1, 2009. The recipients of the awards receive $4,000 to help offset the expense of doing research or a creative project under the direction of a supervising faculty mentor. The award can be used to pay for travel, supplies/material, and living expenses.

The National Cancer Institute’s - Integrative Cancer Biology Program: 2009 Summer Cancer Research Fellowships

On behalf of the Education and Outreach Committee of the National Cancer
Institute's Integrative Cancer Biology Program (NCI ICBP), we would like
to inform you of the opportunity for Undergraduate Students to
participate in the 2009 Summer Cancer Research Fellowships sponsored by
the NCI ICBP. The Program is available for undergraduate students
interested in the emerging field of Integrative Cancer Biology.  The
application is now open online through Wednesday, January 21, 2009. In
addition to Biology majors, we especially encourage Computer Science,
Biostatistics, Mathematics, Bioengineering, and other quantitative
majors to apply. We also encourage women and minorities to apply.

CSULA Southern California Bioinformatics Summer Institutes Program (SoCalBSI)

This is the seventh year that we are offering training for students at the Southern California Bioinformatics Summer Institute (SoCalBSI). This internship/training program consists of two weeks of didactic training followed by seven weeks of paid research training in bioinformatics. Our previous participants have gone on to enter graduate programs at Caltech, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Yale, Stanford, and others. SoCalBSI is funded by The National Science Foundation, The National Institutes of Health, and The Economic & Workforce Development, and is able to fund undergraduate and graduate students. We offer $5,000 for undergraduates and $6,000 for graduate students.  Please announce SoCalBSI to the faculty so that interested students may apply through our website. Applications are now being accepted until March 02, 2009. The program will be held between June 22 to August 20, 2009 in Los Angeles at the California State University, Los Angeles. We do offer on-campus housing to students who require lodging. In addition, please kindly post our flyers in your department office and on your bulletin boards; the flyer is attached in this email and can also be downloaded from our website listed below.
