Hi Everyone,
I have been looking in on the scariest stories that students are
writing. I am enjoying reading them. There are some of you who are
doing this project online and some of you who are doing it off line and
then copying and pasting the stories in the iCollaboratory. Others of
you have not had time to finish the project (not a problem). I hope all
of you will find time to login and view and make appropriate comments
on student stories. Having a positive peer audience is very important
for student writing. The Internet address for the student gallery is
http://sites.google.com/a/collaboratory.northwestern.edu/scariest-stories/Home/scarist-stories-gallery
Please make sure your site is linked to the gallery page.
Important: Your individual site permissions need to be set as "Allow other/all Collaboratory members to VIEW this site."
Please make sure you have VIEW selected, NOT EDIT. You may or may not want to set your site viewable by the public.
I am out of town this week, so, please send me email if you have questions.
I look forward to seeing all the stories with comments. I hope you have
all enjoyed participating in the iCollabotatory "Scariest Stories"
project. I would like to see you back in the "What I am Thankful For"
project.

To add a video to your story from your computer:
These instructions are very similar to adding an audio clip so if you’re familiar with that, you’re ahead of the game.
- While on your story’s page, click the plus sign next to Attachments.
- Click Browse.
- Select the video you would like to add.
- Click Open.
- Wait a moment for the video to be uploaded. When done the name of the video will show up under Attachments in blue.
- Right-click the video’s name and click Copy Link Location.
- Go to the Page Editor for your story by clicking Edit page at the top.
- While in the Page Editor, select the keywords you
would like to trigger the video (for example you might want the reader
to see a video of a moving car when they click car chase):
- Hold down your mouse button
- Drag the cursor across those words. They should be highlighted in a different color.
- With those words selected, click the Link button.
- Click Web address.
- Right-click the box and click Paste.
- Click the OK button at the bottom left corner.
- Click the Save button to keep your changes.

Hi Bonnie!
Are youtube and google videos the only videos that can be added to the stories at this time? If there is a way to add videos saved to the school drive, how is it done?
Thanks.

We have many sites here. Each different classroom is a different site. When you are linking sites together as in the Gallery page, you need to use the full Internet address as you have done. The students pages can simply link to the classroom sites, but the classroom sites need to be linked by copying and pasting Internet addresses.

To share your students pages to change the background: 1. Log in to the classroom account. 2. click Site Settings/ Settings. the first level settings page comes up 3. on the top there are three tabs, Sharing, Appearance and Other Stuff -The Share page appears on top. 4.
Select the way you would like to share this page.- you should make your
account an owner. Do now add anyone else as a collaborator, that means
they can edit. Anyone else you add should be a viewer.

I
cannot change the background/appearance of my site. When I click on
settings ( logged in with the class account), I only can change
"Sharing" properties. If I log in with my account, I cannot access the
class page and make changes. How do I change the appearance of my class
sites? Thank you,
Jennifer McCaleb
