Neighborhood Cybrary

Cybrary Overview:  In the Neighborhood Cybrary, you share information about your school and  your community in an online template.  All students and teachers participating in the A Day in Our Neighborhood project will be able to view information about your school and community.

 

Instructions:  In the Cybrary, you will:

1.      Post a link of your school’s website

2.      Post a link to other important sites that describe your neighborhood or community

3.      View information posted by other participants in the A Day in Our Neighborhood Project.

 

Successful Completion:  You will have successfully completed your Cybrary, when you have:

1.Linked your school’s website to the Neighborhood Cybrary,

2.Linked important sites that describe your neighborhood and/or community in the Neighborhood Cybrary,

3.Viewed the Neighborhood Cybrary of participating schools.

What is a Cybrary?

A Cybrary is an online library where participants store Internet links, documents, videos, and images during the development of a project. . The Cybrary becomes each participant’s online library of the resources they are using to conduct their research and to share with other project participants. iCollaboratory members can work together to further develop a project by sharing online references and materials. Resources placed in the Cybrary must be pre-approved a teacher or project manager.

How do I access my project’s Cybrary?
1. In the Welcome to iCollaboratory page, click A Day in Our Neighborhood
2 Adjacent to A Day in Our Neighborhood, click Cybrary

How do I add a website link to a Cybrary
1. Under the page title, click Add a file
2. Next to the web (paste in URL), select the radio button
3. In the textbox, type/paste your website Internet address (Example: http/www.google.com
4. In the Text to display textbox, enter the title of your website Internet website (Example: Google Your Friendly Search Engine) Should this not be the name of your website?)
5. In the File description text box, enter a description of your website (Example: A friendly search engine.)
6. Click Upload

Note: Your new website will appear above Instructions. You should move it into a classroom or project folder so you can easily find it later.

To move your link into a new folder:
1. In Neighborhood Cybrary page next to your new website link, click the check box of the link you want to move to a new folder.
2. In the menu above, select Move to
3. Select New folder
4. In the textbox, enter a Name for your new folder.
5. Click Save. You will see your new link has been moved to the new folder.

To move your link into an existing folder:
1. Next to your new link, click the checkbox
2. In the menu above, select Move to
3. In the drop down menu under Existing Folder, click the name of the folder you want to move new the link into. You will see you new link has been moved to an existing folder.
