A Day in Our Neighborhood Project Details

The  iCollaboratory invites all K-12 students to participate in the A Day in Our Neighborhood to learn more about a variety of school communities.

This project will help you learn more about the world around you and its communities as well as collecting and viewing data. You will review photographs and data submitted by other students from different places and discuss the information in the  Gallery and on an interactive map.

If you have questions about any of the information on this page, please post it as a comment on the bottom of the page.

A Day in Our Neighborhood Cybrary

After registering for the Project, your class submits a link about your school and hometown for students in other places to view.

As a class, select a neighborhood or school website that best represents you school's neighborhood. Add the link to your city's folder in the Neighborhood Cybrary.  Take some time to look at other links from other areas.

You have successfully completed this activity when you have submitted a link about your community and have looked at the links of other participants.

A Day in Our Neighborhood Survey

On March 3 and 4, or March 16 and 17 your class (together) takes an online Survey and then reviews the results to learn more about each others' schools and communities.

Please collect information about your class, school, and community as requested from the Day in Our Neighborhood Survey. At lunchtimes, collect data on the weather in your area. As a class, complete the survey using the data your entire class has collected. View the results to learn more about other neighborhoods.

You have successfully completed this activity when your  class has completed the survey and compared survey results.

The Day in Our Neighborhood Gallery

During the first week of March, you take photographs and record video and audio (optional) of the locations in your school and community. You share these with other participants, along with descriptions of what their photographs and/or recorded clips feature.

Building individual web pages is fun and fine for this project but, it would be fantastic if the class could create a short video about your schools neighborhood sites and sounds for the day. A class website would also be exciting. Remember that these activities will be shared with other iCollaboratory members so keep your schools Internet policy in mind.

You have successfully completed this activity when you have shared "A Day in Our  Neighborhood" web site or video created by members of your class, linked it in the Neighborhood Gallery, and  after linking your Neighborhood projects in the gallery, view and comment on the works by other participants.

The Day in Our Neighborhood Interactive Map

The student work in this project will be accessible through an online interactive map that will mark the different areas where the data, photographs, audio clips and captions were collected for this project.

Notes: Please check with your school's Internet privacy policy before posting any material.
