"Characters of Questionable Intentions": A Bret Wood Interview

June 24, 2008

Bret Wood is the studious and perverse filmmaker behind

Kingdom of Shadows: The Rise of the Horror Film (1998),
Hell’s Highway: The True Story of Highway Safety Films (2003), and
Psychopathia Sexualis: From the Case Histories of Krafft-Ebbing (2006)

Bret’s based in Atlanta, and the Atlanta-based online film magazine Short Ends has a terrific new interview with him.

A few quotes:

Silent film I pay homage to. It’s not that I’m trying to mimic silent film or make a specific reference, but I just love that style of language. It’s a poetry that no one speaks anymore. I love it so much that I try to keep it alive.
I’ve always been attracted to films where by the end it’s not so much about the goal anymore.
