'Satan Hates You' comic

April 14, 2008

Rock’n’roll, halloween, and horror movies - all three, of course, lead directly to hell. Or so Christian scare films have always told us. Standing next to the mangled corpses of motor and industrial safety movies, Christian scare films are persuasion-oriented intellectual cinema, now appreciated more as camp than theology.

James Felix McKenney, writer / director of Automatons, has been developing “the ultimate Christian scare film,” for several years now. With Satan Hates You, McKenney apparently will give the same TLC to Christian scare camp as he did to mid-20th century sci-fi TV with Automatons, while again reanimating the intellectual possibilities of an often condescended-to genre.

As a teaser to what he has in store, McKenney has released to the web a comic, reminiscent of Christian scare comics handed out by street corner evangelicals. See the comic here; dreadcentral.com and cinema-suicide.com have more.
