Corporate Reality
Established in 2007, Corporate Reality is Phi Chi Theta's second largest event and is held annually every fall semester. The event serves to help the oral, written assurance and learning advisory board. Corporate Reality is a writing workshop that emphasizes the importance of writing and communicating effectively in the workplace. The primary purpose of the event is to help those students in the MGMT 300: Communication in Business class develop professionally in that aspect. In 2007, 42% of MGMT 300 students attended and that number increased to 60% in 2008. During the event, several guest speakers from various organizations are invited to speak and answer questions that students may have.
***Phi Chi Theta has received the Student Take the Lead Award from the Chico State College of Business to host Corporate Reality. It was the first time the award had ever been given to a student organization.
Rush Events
As much as Phi Chi Theta wants to develop members professionally, the group also likes to have fun during the rush process. In general, the semester will start off with a pizza night, where interested pledges will have a chance to meet current Phi Chi Theta members and gain more knowledge of the organization. That will usually be followed with a second event, which has been anything from a barbecue, to a game night, to an afternoon of bowling, and once again allows member to get to know interested recruits. The third event, in most cases, is a professional event where interested recruits are invited to before they begin the pledge process. Once a pledge has began the pledge process, they will be assigned an older sibling to be their mentor throughout the semester.
Community Service
Phi Chi Theta believes that it is important to help out our local community and have participated (or created) events to raise money for non-profit organizations. Phi Chi Theta is proud to have raised money for Wings of Eagles, the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children Hospital, the Alzheimer's Association, and the Jesus Center. In the Fall 2008 semester, Phi Chi Theta teamed up with the American Marketing Association and the Association for Women in Business to hold the first annual College of Business Turkey Bowl. The event was designed to be a canned food and clothing drive for the Jesus Center and each participant in the event was required to bring at least one turkey. Phi Chi Theta won the community service award for the team with the most cans and clothing. Looking towards the future, Phi Chi Theta plans to help the sunshine kids club, walk in relay for life, and organize another event for the Alheimer's Association.
Social Events
Social Events are scheduled every semester to encourage fraternity bonding and to build comaraderie among members. These have ranged anywhere from a barbecue, to a table games tournament, to capture the flag and other various games. It is the job of the commisioner of social events to come up with ideas for the event, In addition, each year Phi Chi Theta holds a sibling event where members and their siblings compete against eachother for the ultimate prize.
Retreat
Every year, Phi Chi Theta goes on retreats during the winter and summer breaks from school. These retreats are for active fraternity members only. For the past several years, the fraternity has rented a house in Tahoe for the weekend, as well as provide other amenities. The retreats reward Phi Chi Theta members for their efforts from the previous semester and allow fraternity members to bond with one another.
Formal Dinner
At the end of every semester, Phi Chi Theta holds a formal dinner to acknowledge our accomplishments throughout the past semester and to celebrate our new pledges inititation into the fraternity.
