BECOMING A WORLD WAR II REENACTOR
---------------------------------------------
Well if you have found this page, you have some interest and curiousity to find out. You're wondering am I old enough, or am I too old? What kind of shape do I need to be in? Where do I get all the stuff I will need? How much does it cost? Where would I get a rifle? Do I need a rifle? What does it cost? Where are events held? and what do you do?
Our members range in age from 16 to 60. We're in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but in good enough shape to do some light hiking all day. But there are some units with vehicles which can make this easier on those who are not so inclined. You get your gear on ebay, flea markets, and online reenactor vendors. Most units have loaner gear and rifles, to help you get started and to come to one of the CHG events.
Events are mainly "tactical reenactments" held on California National Guard Bases, Boy Scout Camps, and Private Land. There are about six of these a year from September to June. There are also public services events like the Huntington Beach 4th of July parade. And finally Living History events, at which reenactors from all through history show up, and set up period encampments.
Most of the battles are ETO (Allied versus the Germans), but there are some battles which are PTO (Allied versus the Japanese).
Most units have no membership fees, and have members throughout California. The cost to join the CHG is $30, and individual events cost from $25 to $40 for a intense packed weekend.
On the second page of this document is a complete listing of all the member units of the California Historical Group (CHG). Carefully examine each unit through their websites, phone numbers, and e-mails. |
