Introduction to Digital Media

Digital Media

Introduction to Digital Media Production is a course designed to give you experience of creating a selection of digital media productions. The course is split into two parts: one covering web production, which also involves photography, and one covering video production. In each case you will be working in groups (ideally of three) and will be working to a brief.

The links at the bottom of this page allow you to navigate to page dedicated to the three disciplines we cover (photography, video and web) and you'll also find other stuff that might be of interest elsewhere on the site.

Course Assignments

IDM is divided into two strands (groups A and B). During the first semester, one group will undertake the 'web' assignment and the other will do 'video', and these roles will swap over for the second semester.

Web Assignment

Create a website on the subject of 'the everyday' using a range of media forms including text, internal and external links, photography and embedded audio. Software used on the course includes Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver, though students in previous years have also used Facebook, Blogger and other easily available tools.

Video Assignment
Create a one to two minute video film on the subject of 'the everyday.' The production will involve everything from writing and filming to editing the final piece using Adobe Premiere.

This is getting on a bit, but is still useful when thinking about how people build themselves on the net.
