Here I'll be adding links to useful bits of software or services. Please note, you need to work out how to use these programs yourself!

Picasa | Organise, edit and create slideshows using your images

Gimp | Image editing software

Photo Story 3 | Excellent slideshow software

Zwei-Stein Video Editor 3.01 | Free desktop editing, a bit techie but very good features such as opacity etc.

Wax | Free desktop editing (only problem is it doesn't seem to have a capture feature)

Jumpcut | online editing, no need to install

Amaya | Free Web authoring

Windows Media Encoder | Streaming software for Windows Media Player - ideal for compressing your movies before uploading to

YouTube or Vimeo

Audacity | Audio editing (you need to install the MP3 encoder separately)

Short Film Competition

The Brief

You have to make a 2 minute film using the media supplied (5 still images and 6 audio clips). You can manipulate it using any software packages eg. Photoshop and Premiere, but are NOT allowed to add to it apart from titles at the beginning and end. You have a 10% margin either side on the time. The finished piece has to be streamed and uploaded to Vimeo, and the link supplied to phillip.hargreaves@uwe.ac.uk. The deadline for submission is the 7^th November.

You do not have to use all the media

The pieces will be judged and there will be prizes for the top 2.

Output your finished piece as an AVI and then use one of the encoders.

The piece will need to be compressed using Windows Media Encoder before uploading. Set your video size to 500 x 400 pixels. Please see instruction manuals below.
