About Mark: Mark came to the Center of Light when it first opened, searching for a Christian community that had real integrity and purity and reflected the ideals that he had read about in his research on the early Franciscan Order. He has been delightfully surprised by the community that has sprung up relatively quickly, in which he is finding sisters and brothers who are humbly growing in love and connection to God and each other. Here is what he writes.
I rarely find myself typing up blogs, in fact I had often
protested against such impersonal ways of communication in the past.
The center of light has brought many blessings, if I could use that
word, in helping me to understand the many parameters and ways of being
by exposure to astrology and other deep mystic principals. However it
has given more to me than satisfying the curiosity and thirst of my
mind, it has created for me the space where my higher self could learn
and grow, to dare to be rather than just to do. The sharing with many
special priests and community members has created a much desired curse
in my life of exposing and challenging many personal areas of much
needed growth, with that I find relief in my soul in knowing that this
life will be more than a an illusionary pursuit of material and social
accomplishments in which so many around me seem to call life. Despite
mixed feelings I had in the beginning I feel I have found the order I
have been looking for to challenge me in this small moments journey.

A note about Sr. Genevieve:
Before the Center of Light opened in New York, Sr. Genevieve drove from New Rochelle, NY to New Haven, CT to participate in the Centers activities there. She received spiritual training there for 2 years and later took vows to serve in the Order of Mercy, a service oriented Order dedicated to the administration of mercy to the elderly through visitations and personal support and to the earth through clean-up projects. She now attends the (much closer) Center of Light, New York. We thought that since she has known us the longest, she might as well kick off the community blog! Here is what she has to say:
What is it about the Center of Light that has drawn me to
be around it for the past three years? Well, it is a combination of
things. One is the warm and welcoming community of people that you will
always find on any day of the week where I feel safe and fully free to learn,
explore more about myself and allow myself to be my true self. Secondly,
it is the ongoing learning of truth about how to be in the world in a real
tangible way. Having real priests and teachers I can trust guiding me
through and filling me with the knowledge and experiences so I can move into a
more peaceful life and have a direct relationship with God that I had been
searching for. I found the answers to my questions like who am I, what am
I here for, what is love and can I have peace in my life. I learned skills to
keep myself from the fear and guilt and anger that I learned from the world
that kept me from finding the real me. Thank you to the Center of Light. Sr. Genevieve

We have now been officially open for 17 weeks and have a bustling community where people are enjoying classes, services and seminars, stretching and growing personally and deepening their connections to God and others. We recently invited our attendees to blog about their experiences with the Center of Light. Stay tuned for their entries.

We are happy to announce that The Center of Light is now officially open!
After several construction delays on the original Carroll Gardens location and several construction delays on the new location we opened our doors on Christmas eve at 11:30pm and welcomed our first official guests for our Midnight Mass Christmas Service. So, with the birth of the Christ came the birth of our Center. We are happy to offer it to all New York.
Activities are now running regularly with: morning meditation and Communion; Sunday Services; Introductory and Advanced classes; Prayers for Peace; Conscious Movie Nights; and an array of seminars.
A warm and welcoming spiritual Community is already afoot as the first regulars are gathering together to enjoy what the Center is offering. The Center is beautiful. It is two floors, each 700 sq feet, with a large classroom and office on the main floor and a lovely Chapel on the lower level. Though it is newly born, it already carries a powerful presence of peace and love. It is located on the corner of 7th Ave and Sterling Place in bustling Park Slope, very near the Q and 2-3 lines. So the location is great.
We have our Official Grand Opening planned for Tuesday January 13th at 7:30pm. Welcome to come, meet us, learn about our Center and celebrate its birth!

We are in the midst of preparing our new COL New York to receive many. Today we enjoyed the company of Sister Genevienve and her husband Sal ... a professional painter ... who both helped tremendously with efficiency and joy, painting our new space. We have more photos below for you all to see 145 Sterling Place in the daylight and in it's state of transformation.
May these chilly days draw each of you deeper into the warmpth of your hearts and God's great love for you.
