Wow, its been a while since I have posted a blog! I am making a renewed commitment to regular blogging as there are so many great things to share about what is taking place at the Denver Center of Light and it is a great way to keep in touch with those of you wanting to hear about it! For instance, last evening we welcomed a cross country traveler, student Joshua, who is making his way to our newest Center of Light in Chicago where he will be living as a novice. He was joined for the remainder of his travels by Janelle and Jonah from our Denver Center who are transplanting to Chicago and Milwaukee where they, too, will become new novices. This a big and exciting step for all three of them. Becoming a novice means that one enters into a more intensive kind of spiritual training experience. Rather than traveling too and from a center each day for meditations, classes, etc., a novice lives IN the center. This will give them the opportunity to work very closely with their teacher and with each other in conscious relationships with one another. While all of our centers foster real, deep, intentional relating, being a novice is a big blessing for those who feel called to this kind of experience. It is a profound way to quicken one's journey to God within. May they each be blessed in their new life! |

As I write this, we are just moments ahead of the swearing in of our first black president. It is amazing to be witnessing this moment in history. During these moments it feels as if time were standing still. It is a moment of healing for this country that will undoubtedly have a tremendous ripple effect across this planet. I am mindful of the many prayers we have offered up as a community and an order for the reality of equality, justice, and liberty for all. Thanks be to God that this election is possible. May peace and non-violence prevail. May this truly be an opportunity that will pave the way for humanity to rise up into what is possible as we drop our differences and see that which we share in common - that which unites us all - that Divine spark of Life and Love that flows through each of us and allows us to be here living in this time together. May blessings of peace descend upon all of humanity in this moment in history - and may this moment become a new platform from which to rise in our evolution as humankind.

Last night we showed the film "ONE" for our Conscious Movie Night. We had 14 confirmed to attend and 18 that showed up. The film inspired a full house and great conversation about the meaning of life, death, purpose, etc. While the film was inspiring, I was saddened to learn how many individuals have no idea what the meaning of life is. I also understand that if one does not know how to connect to God within, then one could not even ask this question to learn the answer. I am so thankful that we have the tools to be able to guide students within to get a direct response to this question so that those who are interested can truly know what its all about...the meaning of life that is! If you are curious to know the meaning of life, come to our center and be fully supported in finding out.

This was the comment made by several of our community members who attended Christmas eve or day celebrations here at the Center of Light Denver. Ever? There are a lot of Christmas celebrations to compare to when someone says "ever". It certainly wasn't the gifts. The food was good but I am quite certain it wasn't that either. So what was it? It was real. And what exactly does that mean? There is so much outer hoopla during one of the most holy seasons of the year and then when it is over the hope is that for all that energy put forth, something should have happened! Well, something does happen at any one of our centers of light. We take seriously the 4 weeks of Advent so that we can truly give birth to the Light of Christ. That is what the Christ Mass was supposed to be about. Unfortunately, as a society, we have lost sight of that. The amazing thing for those who attend our centers is that while the birth of the Christ Light happens around this time of year, with practice, the light can be experienced year round for those who are open to it. If you want this experience, come to our center. We won't charge you for it...we just ask that you come with an open mind and a willing heart. In Jesus and Mary's Peace, Rev Isabelle

A new post by Father Peter Bowes: Thanks
to the people of America
for coming through with a major statement that things have to change in the U.S. As a
people, we have been duped into involvement in two major wars that seem to be
unending. We have suffered the loss of at least 30% of our savings and
retirement. Millions are without jobs and millions of people have their homes
in foreclosure. Universal health care has not happened and our children are
less educated than kids 20 years ago. Our new President has his work cut out
for him as the legacy of the greedy, liars has stolen so much from the
security of the American people. We need to pray that he has the help he
needs to do a good job to fix all of these problems. We need to pray for the
courage to tighten our belts and help make the sacrifices that need to be made
to stop the hatred, the killing and the insane greed that has been cultivated
by so many examples out of control. Without peace in one's heart, nothing
will be accomplished that will actually change anything for the better. Anger
and reaction will make matters worse. Hating people makes things worse. I was
actually saddened and appalled that supporters of the opposition candidate
actually booed the new president. That kind of hostility is so primitive and
so mean. We are talking about a human being. No self-respecting person thinks
the opposing candidate is a terrorist or a racist or crazy or lazy or stupid
or evil. People's intentions are good, but their actions are sometimes
deplorable. There is a human soul the God made, that is how we should look at
another human being no matter whether we agree with them or not. They are
made by God and loved by God the same as we are and deserve that intense
consideration that we demand for ourselves. Can we please wake up?

A recent blog from Father Peter Bowes. We like the animals and the birds and the fish because
they are uncomplicated. They have no ulterior motives, no unsavory aspects.
Okay, they can eat each other sometimes and that is the dog eat dog world of
survival. But it is not angry or mean. It is because they are hungry and since
they are instinctual creatures programmed to be that way forever, they do what
they do and will always do what they do in the same way they have always acted.
It is simple and beautiful because it is not vicious or vengeful. They are
programmed to eat or be eaten and that is the way God made it. Humans are much
different. They can kill when they are not hungry. They can desire sex even when
they take advantage of someone or steal from someone. They can devise strategies
in cunning ways to outdo and usurp power from others in the most ruthless style
that no aggressive animal can match. Humans are unmatched in cruelty and
meanness since they have to deaden their conscience to be so harsh and cruel.
But watching the birds and animals seems so peaceful and tame compared to the
devastation the humans can bring down on others, that we are in awe of the
beauty, the stillness, the peace and tranquility of nature. Nature is a balm of
healing for those practically drowning in the sea of despair or hurting so much
they want to die. Nature seems like a pristine spring flowing over a cliff in
spray compared to the ruthless power of rage that human beings can unleash.
When will we stop the aggressive energies, the fighting and complaining?
When will the hearts of human beings make peace and love more important than
anger and separation? If we go on like this, we will destroy all that's good and
all that's holy. Keep it up because God is definitely watching. | |

I feel such gratitude for the opportunity people are given to really open up and share of themselves in our spiritual community. Every Sunday following Communion Service we partake in a communal brunch during which each person who wishes is given the chance to share what came up for them during the meditation or service. Because of the integrity and Love that is a constant element during these gatherings, what unfolds is truly amazing. Individuals open up about things that have been locked away for years and years...so much hurt and pain trapped inside. But when people come together in a spirit of Love and openness, so much can unfold and so much healing can occur. This happens, without fail, every Sunday at our Centers of Light. It is truly miraculous. Those who come can testify to the power of what is possible when one opens to it. I want this kind of sharing to occur for the whole world. I want all people everywhere to experience the healing that comes from sharing what is honest and real while contained in a space of integrity and Love.

There are so many things each day tempting us away from
PEACE...the demands of our work, partners, children...the busyness of everyday
life in the modern world...news flashes, politics, the latest and greatest fads
and trends...so many temptations to look outside of ourselves and to be pulled
into the swirl of all that is going on around us. And yet, in the midst of all that commotion,
PEACE is still there. It is a powerful
force WITHIN that doesn't make a whole lot of noise so it doesn't grab us in the
same way that those outer things do. But
it is there...constantly and persistently there...radiantly there...powerfully
there...calling us and drawing us IN...if only we would let it. To find it, sit still for a moment. Notice what has grabbed hold of your
attention on the outside and choose to ignore it for a moment and look the
other direction and then move deeper and deeper INSIDE. Blessings on your journey!
