The Lives of the Essenes Thursday, November 19 • 7:30 p.m. Suggested Donation: $25 Often said to be the teachers of Jesus, the Essenes were a small community of devoted Jews who chose to live their lives according to the Old Testament guidelines for awaiting the coming of the Messiah. A gentle and peaceful people, they lived in a community that some might call utopian: sharing with each other and with their neighbors, living in simplicity and humility, and never choosing sides in conflict. They were a godly people who wanted to be ready for the Messiah's coming and to live as the Christ would have them live. This sect disappeared not long after Jesus' death and resurrection and it is thought that they integrated into the emerging Christian culture of that time. You Don't Have Any Problems Friday, November 20 • 7:30 p.m. Suggested Donation: $25 If God is Love, if we are loved by God, how can we have any problems? If we accept into our being the reality of God's goodness, love, and caring for us, then the natural result of that would be to trust our lives to God's care.
