2007 Alex McKay, who recently completed third grade at Trinity North Elementary School in Washington, PA, has attended the Conductive Education summer camp since 2001. But 2007 promises to be a special year. This summer, he is attending with the support of the parents, teachers and students of Trinity North, who joined forces to raise funds for his tuition.
Jodie Shrontz, the president of the Trinity North Parent Club, approached Alex’s mother Marcia McKay in April 2007 and asked if Alex was hoping to attend conductive education camp this year. When Marcia confirmed that he was, Jodie told her that they wanted to hold a fundraiser for his tuition.
For two weeks, all the children at Trinity North were given the opportunity to build a “spirit chain” for Alex. They could buy a paper link for 25 cents each, with each grade from kindergarten to 5th grade assigned specific colors. The Trinity North Parents Club and additional volunteers glued all the links together and hung each chain around the school cafeteria.
By the end of the fundraiser, the third grade's chain wrapped around the school cafeteria not once, but twice. And on Awards Day, the Trinity North Parents Club presented Alex with a check for $500, which he accepted onstage.
We extend our congratulations and warm thanks to Jodie and all the parents, teachers and students of Trinity North. We are delighted to have Alex with us this year!
