Classroom Procedures

Procedures:
  1. Classroom Voice Levels :  0 – Silence     1 – Whisper     2 – Quiet Voice     3 – Classroom Voice
  2. When the teacher is talking, do not raise your hand, listen carefully to instructions and write them down if needed. Do not talk unless called upon.
  3. Make-up Work: 1. Check Mrs. C-Mac's site under your class to see what you missed. 2. Check the bellwork board. 3. Ask table members to explain the assignment. 4. If needed, ask Mrs. C-Mac for the paper you missed. 5. Do the assignment. 6. Turn it into the "In Box" by the next day.
  4. Questions: Do not raise your hand during instruction, write down questions and take notes. There will be time for questions after instruction. During workshop time, ask your table members for help. If you still need help, ask me quietly as I wander around the classroom.
  5. Shazam 1 signals the beginning of workshop time. This means you must quickly get your materials and begin working. Use your best judgment about talking. The focus during studio time is on creative production, not socializing. Keep noise level low at all times.
  6. Shazam 2 signals the end of the workshop session. (Times are on the board). Stop what you are doing, return books to shelf (if needed), turn in papers and return to your seat and be prepared to share what you learned from the lesson. Raise hands for questions and/or comments. Students are not allowed to leave without dismissal from the teacher. THE BELL DOES NOT DISMISS YOU, I DO!
  7. Entering & Exiting the Classroom ~ Voice Level 0/1 ~ Please enter and exit the classroom quietly at all times.  You are to always keep your hands, feet, and all other objects to yourself.  You must wait to be invited into the classroom.
  8.

    ·        Bell Ringer Work ~ Voice Level 0 ~ At the start of each class, get your composition notebook, read the prompt, date the top of the entry and start writing until the timer goes off or Mrs. C-Mac says “Stop.”  Keep this notebook in the classroom at all times. These will usually be graded weekly.

    ·        Turning in Assignments ~ Voice Level 1 ~ There are designated homework slots on the counter in Mrs. C-Mac’s classroom.  Make sure every paper has your name, date and class written in the upper right-hand corner.

    ·        Turning in Late/Missing Assignments ~ Voice Level 0 ~ When you are absent, it is your responsibility to check Mrs. C-Mac’s website to see what you missed, or ask your table partner outside of instruction time to find out what you missed. Do this assignment as homework or after you finish the day’s assignment. You must turn late work in within a week of your return. Make sure you list the name of the late/missing assignment in the heading and turn it into the correct slot for your class.

    ·        Individual work ~ Voice Level 0 ~ You are expected to do your best to be focused on your own work and you may not talk without permission from Mrs. C-Mac. There will be times when cooperative learning is put into place and a voice level of 1-2 is allowed.  Since there will be up to two other individuals sharing you table, you need to be thoughtful of the amount of space you are using.  Please keep all of your supplies and belongings neat and orderly in your space. Your bag must be out of the aisle and kept out of the way at all times.  If you are unable to properly sit at a table with other students, an alternate seating arrangement will be put into place.

    ·        Laptop Basics ~ Voice Level 0 ~ First and foremost, remember that having access to a laptop is a privilege, not a right. In class, do not take your laptop out of your bags unless Mrs. C-Mac tells you to do so. When it is time for you to do so there are three immediate steps for you to follow: power on, log on, and sync.  Those steps mean to turn your computer on, log on to the network using your username and password, and then connect to Mrs. C-Mac’s computer via SynchronEyes If you do not follow these steps when prompted, and stay on task, you will lose your computer privileges indefinitely. Always take good care of your computer and follow the Crowley County School District’s Acceptable Use Policy.

    ·        Sharpening Pencils, Throwing Out Trash, & Getting a Kleenex ~ Voice Level 0 ~ If your pencil needs to be sharpened, you have trash to throw away, or you need to blow your nose, you have permission to do these things as long as Mrs. C-Mac is not talking to the class.  If you choose to disrupt the class by talking, wandering around, or loitering while doing these things, you will lose this privilege.

    ·        Leaving the Classroom ~ Voice Level 0 ~ You absolutely must have permission from Mrs. C-Mac in order to leave the room for any reason!  Even when you are called over the intercom please wait for Mrs. C-Mac to release you before leaving.  Simply get her attention at an appropriate time and ask politely.  Permission will be given based on the circumstances, and whether or not other students are out of the room.  Always leave the room quietly and return in the same manner.  While you are out of the room do what you have been given permission to do and only that.  Always push your chair in.

    ·        When Mrs. C-Mac  Needs Your Attention ~ Voice Level 0 ~ Generally, Mrs. C-Mac will raise her hand and say, “All eyes up here.” Whatever the signal is, students need to respond the same. Students are expected to stop, look and listen: stop what they are doing, look at the teacher, sit silently and listen with your full attention.

    ·        Room Visitor, Intercom Announcement, & Teacher Phone Call ~ Voice Level 0 ~ If there is a visitor in the room who needs Mrs. C-Mac’s attention, an intercom announcement, or a time when your teacher needs to take a phone call, you are expected to continue what you are working on.  If this happens to occur in the middle of instruction time you should get out your A.R. book and read silently until Mrs. C-Mac can return.

    ·        Cooperative Learning ~ Voice Level 2 ~ There will be times in class when you will be expected to work with a group of other students.  Each group will be expected to follow directions and cooperate with each other in order to complete a given task.

    ·        Using Notebook Paper & Heading Your Assignments ~ Voice Level 0 ~ Make sure you cut the fringe off of paper if needed, and always head your paper (notebook paper or computer document) as follows:

    Student Name (First & Last)

    Date

    Hour
