This calendar shows due dates, assignments, and events that are in place for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes.  Visit each individual class website to see grade-level specific due dates, assignments, and events.

Colorado Model Content Standards for
Reading & Writing:
(Literature focused standards are marked with an *)
1.  Students read and understand a variety of materials.*
2.  Students write and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences.
3.  Students write and speak using conventional grammar, usage, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
4.  Students apply thinking skills to their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.*
5.  Students read to locate, select, and make use of relevant information from a variety of media, reference, and technological sources.*
6.  Students read and recognize literature as a record of human experience.*

A Note About Literature:

    Reading is the cornerstone of education, and it is very important for students of all ages to be good solid readers. Unfortunately too many students have developed a negative attitude towards reading.  An important goal for Miss Hobbs each year is to reveal to her students the enjoyment they can find in reading.  Therefore, the reading class focuses not only on direct instruction for better reading but also how to make reading fun.  Aspects of the literature grade will include bell ringer work, vocabulary activities, reading response work, literature activities, unit projects, speeches or presentations, skills work, novel study work, and Accelerated Reader.
