GUIDELINES, CLASSROOM RULES AND CODES OF CONDUCT

Due to the determination to make this a positive experience for all students, there are certain rules and guidelines that must govern student behavior in the classroom and at activities. Since music is academic elective that possesses several special inherent activities the instrumental music student will be held to higher standards than that which is expected of the general student body.

ATTITUDE

One of the keys to a successful instrumental music program is that the proper attitude be present among its members. It is vital that all members cooperate with instructor and student leaders in order to insure the best possible experience for all. Those students that exhibit an unwillingness or inability to do this will be asked to forfeit their continued participation in the program.

STUDENT HANDBOOK

All the policies found in the general student handbook for each school as well as other school or board of education rules and policies apply to all instrumental music functions. Instrumental music students will be held to higher standards than those for the general student body and the policies and consequences in the student handbook will be considered the minimum. Policies and rules are to be enforced on an equal basis.

FUND-RAISERS

It is necessary every year to hold fund-raisers to supplement the normal budget from the school district in order to maintain the level of activity our program has grown accustomed to. Travel on trips, both in state and those planned for out, will depend heavily upon participation in fund-raising activities. The fundamental goal of a fund-raiser is to give students an opportunity to make money to cover costs of travel. Instrumental music students will have an account set for them that will accumulate the money collected on the fund-raisers they participate in. Students will not receive money from accounts to pay for anything but out-of-pocket trip costs, reeds, lubricants, mutes and personal fees for activities. All money collected is the property of the instrumental music program and will not be turned over to students upon termination of participation; such money will revert back to the program to be used as the director best sees fit. Money may be given to students as spending cash on certain trips so long as the initial travel and trip expense(s) have been met.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CLASS AND ACTIVITIES

Each student must strive to demonstrate a sense of responsibility in the following manner:
A. Bring all necessary items essential for performance to the performance site or point of departure;
B. Show supreme respect for every music instrument in the music room;
C. Keep your instrument in excellent playing condition at all times;
D. Represent your school, community, group and self with only the best conduct on all group activities Because of the thousands of dollars of equipment and music instruments kept in the music room we must all provide for a common defense by reporting anyactivity that is suspicious, might cause damage or indicate theft.
Use only the best manner in the music room. Off-color remarks, foul language and the like are considered unacceptable.
Keep your instruments on the storage shelves only. Keep your music in the proper slot. Do not set, stand or sit on an instrument case, empty or not.
Do not bring food or drink into the music room.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR BUS TRAVEL

  1. Only CCHS music students, school personnel, and approved chaperons are allowed to ride the bus.
  2. In order to attend and participate in a group activity, students must ride to the site of the activity on a Crowley County School District vehicle.
  3. Students may return home with their parent/guardian if they arranged to do so. A note from the parent is required before permission can be granted.
  4. Students will return on the same bus they go on.
  5. Students will stay in their seats while the bus is in motion.
  6. Indecent behavior including loud, boisterous, and/or profane language will not be tolerated.
  7. Food and drink on the bus are normally not a problem; however, final permission will be through the director. Permission will be granted on a per activity basis. Proper cleanup is expected.
  8. There will be no smoking, consumption of alcoholic beverages or use illegal drugs on band trips. This is School Board Policy and would violate State and Federal laws. Violators will be reported to the school administration and turned over to the proper authorities as the situation dictates. Any and all money spent by the school or instrumental music program on the trip will be refunded to the school or music program by violator.
  9. It would be in the best interests of the student and director that any prescription drugs being used by the student be reported ahead of time to the director.
  10. Upon arrival at a destination, students are to stay on their bus until given instructions and permission to leave from the director or chaperon.
  11. At the conclusion of the trip, all students are responsible for the cleanliness of their bus. XII. Proper decorum will be observed at any stops being made on the activity. Facilities will be left in as good, or better, condition than found by Crowley County students and chaperons.
