Classroom behavior will be a vital part of this class due to the individual nature of the learning. Requirements set by the state, district and individual buildings mandate a need for reinforcing reading and writing skills in all subject areas as well as concrete proof of student achievement in assessing their standards. Certainly the bulk of our time will be progressing on our the guitar, however, the more the student knows about music the easier they will be able to perform on their instrument. The curriculum we use will be a combination of performance tests, written tests, informal assessments of progress, etc. My first objective is to create young adults who can enjoy music and possess a certain skill level in creating music. Students will be expected to work at home as well as at school. In most cases home work will be inferred as practice for the next checkpoint and not necessarily a set exercise for the next day. The rules established in the music classroom will fall into one of three categories: respect each other, respect the teacher, and respect the school. Class Guitar is a new offering at CCHS and will be a modification of a program used a number of years ago. We will also be allowing electric guitar and bass guitars, use of these instruments poses a unique set of problems in a classroom so cooperation is a given. It is recommended that the students have their own instrument. We hope that an advanced class can be offered in the future.
