2009-10 Band Trip

Expectations

Classroom behavior will be a vital part of this class due to the individual nature of the learning. Requirements set by the state, district and individual buildings mandate a need for reinforcing reading and writing skills in all subject areas as well as concrete proof of student achievement in assessing their standards. Certainly the bulk of our time will be progressing on our the guitar, however, the more the student knows about music the easier they will be able to perform on their instrument. The curriculum we use will be a combination of performance tests, written tests, informal assessments of progress, etc. My first objective is to create young adults who can enjoy music and possess a certain skill level in creating music. Students will be expected to work at home as well as at school. In most cases home work will be inferred as practice for the next checkpoint and not necessarily a set exercise for the next day.

The rules established in the music classroom will fall into one of three categories: respect each other, respect the teacher, and respect the school.  Class Guitar is a new offering at CCHS and will be a modification of a program used a number of years ago.  We will also be allowing electric guitar and bass guitars, use of these instruments poses a unique set of problems in a classroom so cooperation is a given.  It is recommended that the students have their own instrument.  We hope that an advanced class can be offered in the future.

  1. All rules and policies set forth in the CCHS School Wide Discipline Policy and District Student Code of Conduct.
  2. Nobody leaves the classroom before the bell without permission.
  3. Classtime is to be spent working on the skill presented. Work for other classes should be done at another time. This class is based primarily on individualized learning therefore students will need to remain disciplined and focused on the lessons and time frame presented by the teacher.
  4. You must put stand, music and equipment away before leaving classroom. Students will help and prepare for the next class setup.
  5. Everyone must put some practice in at home.
  6. THERE WILL BE NO CHEWING OF GUM IN THE MUSIC ROOM.
  7. Band instruments to be played only by authorized students.
  8. Students will exhibit proper sitting and playing positions.
  9. Supplementary materials will be checked out from the teacher and returned in a timely manner. On occasions when regular teacher is out, substitutes have full authority over the class. Failure to give substitute proper authority will result in student(s) being reported as having an "F" in citizenship for that particular week (or more as the offense requires) and loss of daily points for that week.
