About Us

The Chicago Area Writing Project (CAWP) is an organization of, by, and for teachers of all grade levels dedicated to improving the instruction of writing and the use of reading and writing in the content areas.   One of over 200 sites of the National Writing Project, CAWP sponsors a variety of programs on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus as well as in Chicago area schools.

Customized School Programs
- We understand that school populations and teaching staffs have different concerns, resources, strengths and needs.  Contact the CAWP Director Barbara Kato at 312-355-4495 or bkato@uic.edu to discuss alternative ways to customize professional development for your staff.  Some alternatives include: long-range planning, follow-up sessions, study groups, and on-site consultation with individual and small groups of teachers.
