There is nothing quite like standing outside on a clear night, away from the lights of the city, and gazing at the billions of points of light, knowing that each one is of a size and distance that goes beyond what we can grasp. It is hard not to feel the overwhelming awe, the sense of our smallness in the midst of it all, and yet know that in the mind of the One from whom all this came, we are still quite significant. Truly amazing! Pausing to consider what all of that means is part of what Pastor Dustin shares with us this week in his sermon entitled, "The Significance of Insignificance." Isaiah 40:12-31 (TNIV) 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, 13 Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD, 14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, 15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; 16 Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires, 17 Before him all the nations are as nothing; 18 With whom, then, will you compare God? 19 As for an idol, a metal worker casts it, 20 People too poor to present such an offering 21 Do you not know? 22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, 23 He brings princes to naught |
25 "To whom will you compare me? 26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: 27 Why do you complain, Jacob? 28 Do you not know? 29 He gives strength to the weary 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, 31 but those who hope in the LORD |
