What is Track And Field? -
Track and Field
is a multi-event team sport in which individuals compete against
individuals from other teams in various events. There are 18 total events which are competed in the state of Minnesota. These events are made up of: -
12 Track Events*: -
Sprinting Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 4 x 100m (a.k.a. 400m Relay), 4 x 200m (a.k.a. 800m Relay), 4 x 400m (a.k.a. 1600m Relay) Hurdle Events: 100m Intermediate Hurdles (girls), 110m High Hurdles (boys), 300m Low Hurdles (girls), 300m Intermediate Hurdles (boys) Distance Events: 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4 x 800m (a.k.a 3200m Relay) -
6 Field Events*: -
Jump Events: High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault Throwing Events: Discus and Shot Put *Athletes
are allowed to compete in 4 events in any meet. These 4 events must be
a combination of both track and field events and can not be only track
or only field. An athlete may compete in 3 track event and 1 field
event; or 2 track events and 2 field events; or 1 track event and 3
field events. These are maximums. Most of our athletes will only be
competing in one or two events per meet.

What do you need to participate in Track and Field?

Fees: -
Uniform: $40, available from the AD's office Thursday and Friday of the first week of practice. -
Training Equipment: -
Early Season: hat, gloves, jacket, running pants (recommend wicking material) -
Whole Season: t-shirt, shorts, running shoes, water bottle

Competition Equipment: - Uniform: Must be the team issued uniform and must be on in all areas of competition; before, during, and after you have finished.
Shoes: Spikes and/or throwing shoes -
Warm ups:
Sweatshirt and pants for down times, as well as for warming up for
events. There are team warm ups available for purchase from the team store(available for a limited time). These are optional and are not considered part of your competition uniform. -
Plastic Bag:
In case of rain this should be big enough to keep you dry (don't forget
to put a hole in the top/bottom). You may want one for your books too.
Practices
- Schedule
- Starting time: 3:00 PM
- Completion: 4:30 PM-5:00 PM
- Location:
- March: The CDH field house or the auxiliary gym.
April-June: Macalester College's Track and Field facility
Come prepared to go outside, especially after April 1. Jumpers,
Sprinters, Throwers, and Vaulters may stay inside for much of March
depending on the weather, however Distance will be outside most of the
season.
Practices are mandatory and will start at 3 PM. The entire
team will meet at the beginning of practice (3 PM). Announcements will
be made. The team will warm up, do form drills, and basic strength work
together to start the workout. Then groups will break off and do event
specific exercises. Meets

- Events
- Athletes will be assigned to events based on their interests and
their ability. Relay spots are earned through demonstration of ability
and attitude. No athlete will be able to compete in a meet having
missed practice that week. Rosters will be posted on-line by 9:00 PM the day before the meet.
- Transportation
- Athletes are expected to arrive with the team on the bus and stay
for the entire meet. They may ride home with their parents. We will be
staggering departure times in two shifts in an effort to minimize
missed class time while allowing those athletes who compete early in
the meet to prepare appropriately.

- As a team CDH Track and Field has had some good successes in the
past. As a member of the present team, what will you do to bring
success to this season?

- CDH Athletes have been at the State Meet time and time again. They
have participated and they have competed well. What are your goals?
What will make this a successful season for you? What will you have to
do to attain those goals?
