Steve's Blog April - June 2014

30th June 2014

When I finshed the 47 route objects for use in the NWM route, I told Tony Haylor of TSC/TSS that I would make some Class 56 versions.

Making the Fastline 56 external reminded me that I had put off bothering as it was not quite as simple as the 47!

So here is what it looks like at present.

The screenshot is of the object and a somewhat bigger file size and number external version behind.

The grinder is still being worked on, if I had not side tracked to the 56 object that is and the 66 external has not been forgotten about.

25th June 2014

Work continues on the grinder, but as I have not released anything for a while I thought I better do something!

So here's 56302 in Fastline livery, at the moment it's a light engine only as I don't have anything I can put behind it!

Now available to download on the Class 56 page.

16th June 2014

More work on the grinder, I must remind myself it's a route object.

Or put it another way, the route object might not look like this!

11th June 2014

Work continues on the Grinder, as ever it was supposed to be a quick object!

7th June 2014

Guess what, I've started on a Grinder or a departmental object for inclusion in NWM as a route object.

Richard Boddy sent me some new shots, quite a few of the shots are of a RGH20C Harsco Rail Grinder although so far I've only used three of them to make the object.

I felt like a change from the 66, the 60 is in the screenshot I've used it for prospective.

There is no info about departmental units so it's all been made with quite a bit of guess work and I hope an eye for prospective.

Just Google RGH rail grinder to find a few shots to compare it with, although everyone of this small class seems to have detail differences!

This is DR79265 and DR79275.

2nd June 2014

The bodyside steps are now finished.

What's left?

Stop the battery boxes from floating in mid air!

Add detail to the inner sandboxs and the fuel tanks on each version.

Finish the cable runs on the right hand side and then add all the sandpipes plus all the small air supply pipework for the sanding system.

I've normally given an estimate of how long to release, but it's always wrong so may be not this time......

29th May 2014

A day on and I have finished the bogie steps and moved on to the bodyside door on the low emit version.

First a screenshot of the large cab end bogie steps.

Here is the WIP of the bodyside steps.

28th May 2014

Well I thought I better post something!

The bogies are nearly finished there's just a few textures I am not happy with on the inner ends of them.

18th May 2014

Well, work continues on the bogies.

Sorry about the lack of posts on here by me, but despite the detail I am adding to the bogies they do not really make great blog posts with screenshots!

3rd May 2014

So the black bit replacement is now err black or my Mk2 traction motors.

Why have a bothered making them more correct?

Well, it's a case of making your view through the bogies be blocked by things that should be in your way.

2nd May 2014

Still the boring bit at the moment!

I did not like the black bits, so I've been bothering to research the traction motors a bit more.

So a total redo to look a bit more like a Class 66 DC43 traction motor.

It's shown in the screenshot below in bright in development colours, before it and the other five turn in to black blobs....

23rd April 2014

Yes it's the boring bit!

Or the bogies on a Class 66...

All those black bits are representations of the traction motors, the bogie pivot has also been added.

The end of the bogie casting has also been finished.

14th April 2014

As ever work got in the way a bit.

I have managed to do some work on them.

All on the bufferbeam and cab front area's, although I've also made the cab side interiors look the same by putting the textures from the Lo-Emit version in the older windowed versions.

So I've made six versions of the Freightliner 66, the odd one or two more might also be made.

So what's to do?

Well I have not finished all the underframe pipe and conduit runs, plus the bogies are not anywhere near finished.

But most of what's left is related to the bogies so they are what's next.

Or boring screenshots of the bogie work for the next couple of months or more!

Here's a screenshot of the bogies on their own, it shows what work is needed...

4th April 2014

Today I've repositioned the light above the cab windscreens and corrected the textures used.

The multiple working socket has been and the eyelets above the bufferbeam are being made 3D.

I have also added the lamp bracket and the steps below the Wipac lights.

3rd April 2014

More work on the Class 66 mainly on the cab front, I've also cleaned up the OHL orange line.

I have also reconfigured the Class 47 route objects to work in other routes other than NWM and added a bufferbeam cowl for older versions of the 47.

That's why I've not done much to the 66 in the last couple of weeks, although the person who I made them for says the BR blue is wrong.

He maybe right, but unless someone has a BR blue painted item with fresh paint on it that has not faded over time..

They will be released for anyone else to use, but not just yet.

Unless someone asks!

That will include reconfigured versions of what I made for use in NWM.
